External GSM antenna 10 dBi
External GSM antenna with a magnetic base, 10 dBi gain. The strongest we carry, for genuinely difficult locations. Worth trying only after a lower-gain antenna has failed to help.
When you need a stronger antenna
The scale has a built-in antenna that is enough in most places. An external antenna is worth adding when readings arrive irregularly or stop altogether, when the apiary sits in a hollow, behind a hill or deep in woodland, or when the scale stands inside a metal or concrete structure that blocks the signal.
Choosing the gain
More gain is not automatically better. A higher-gain antenna concentrates the signal into a narrower beam, so it helps where the base station is far away but roughly level with you. Start with the lowest gain that solves the problem: 3 dBi where the signal only stutters, 5 dBi for weak but steady signal, 7 or 10 dBi for genuinely difficult locations.
Fitting it
The antenna screws onto the SMA connector on the scale housing. The magnetic base holds it to any steel surface, no tools needed. Mount it as high and as clear of obstacles as you can — height usually helps more than gain.
